While it doesn’t take a soothsayer to know that comic book adaptations in summer time are as frequent as thoughtful people “looking” in a Spielberg film, it does take an oracle to understand that this particular hero’s turn on the big screen will be as big a disappointment as The Green Lantern.
At first foresight this film looks inspired with great director Joe Johnston, who past efforts like The Rocketeer, Jumanji and Hidalgo were all special effects films that succeeded on an emotional level beyond expectation. However, further gazing reveals cardboard character writing from the scribes responsible for the last couple Narnia movies and a film that will be a success commercially, but like the Narnia films, will be forgotten by the time those child actors grow up and find themselves in a different line of work altogether. That’s not to say that this film will be un-for-seeable, that’s just to say that despite the best direction in the world i.e. Steven Spielberg, there’s nothing that can make up for an average to below average screenplay i.e. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
It is not widely known that Joe Johnston, once collaborator with George Lucas on the Star Wars trilogy, was put through college by good ‘ole George, however widely known amongst clairvoyants, Lucas sends Joe back to school after watching this most recent Marvel adaptation.
